This morning I got up and took my time getting ready, and having a good time with my Bible and prayer. Finally I loaded the van (Snow White) and headed out. Before I started I called John and Lois near Charlotte, NC to see if they would be available to get together. That would make a difference in the direction I took from Columbia.
After some confusion about how soon I would arrive in their area (I had neglected to mention that I was driving, - oops - and Lois couldn’t figure out how I could get there today if I was walking), we agreed to meet for lunch. I told her I would call again when I got a little closer.
As I continued driving the sky got darker, and soon it began to rain - off and on at first. I stopped at a rest stop, then a little later I called Lois again to let her know about when I would arrive in Charlotte. We agreed on a place to meet and they gave me some directions. As I got closer to Charlotte the rain came down more steadily.
Still I managed to find the place I thought we were meeting at pretty easily. A few minutes later they called to say they were at the meeting place, but it was closed down. I mentioned where I was and some of the places around it. One of the places was Bob Evans Restaurant. They knew that place well, so we decided to meet there. As it turned out I drove in right behind them (or they behind me). Anyway they figured out it was me in the van because of the magnets on the side of the van - the ones with my book and the map of the walk from Washington to Florida - kind of a dead give-away.
We sat for two or three hours enjoying lunch and talking. These are clients of Dave’s that I had never met before, and it was truly a delight to meet them and get to know them a bit. I’m so glad I took the time to get together with them.
When we parted I called Dave and talked with him for a little while, then I set Lady G and headed out. There was not a real direct way to get to Lucama from Charlotte, so setting Lady G (the GPS) was a great way to do it. It was still about 8 pm when I arrived. We visited for a bit, and I got my things in, then soon headed for bed.
Oh, yes, Becky told me that their Sunday School class wanted me to share a bit. We called Gene, the teacher of the class, to make the arrangements, and decided on a full presentation. So before I went to bed I made sure I had everything ready that I would need for that.
Sunday morning I got up at about 5 am and got dressed and had my Bible/Prayer time. After breakfast I changed to my Sunday clothes and then it was soon time to go. I followed Bob and Becky in Snow White to be sure I brought everything that I needed.
It was fun doing the presentation. I hadn’t done one since Shaun and Bev’s church in Orlando. That was March 9. They were a good audience.
After Sunday School we had church with a very good message by Pastor Gene about the trinity. I took a lot of notes in addition to the notes he had included as an insert in the bulletin.
Then following the church service we had Sunday lunch in the fellowship Hall. That was a great time of eating and visiting.
On the way home an animal ran across the road in front of me. It was too big for a squirrel, but not a raccoon or anything quite like that. I asked Becky later what it was, and she thought it was a woodchuck. I was surprised how fast he could run with his fat little body.
We changed clothes and took a walk - Bob and Gus, the German Shepherd, Becky and me. We walked down to a stable and Becky and I walked in to see the horses while Bob and Gus continued on. There were a lot of colts in various pastures, and we enjoyed them all. Then we watched a girl riding for awhile, and walked through one of the stables stopping to talk to and pet each of the horses there.
When we finally got back to the house I made a couple of phone calls, then we visited and had popcorn and apples with cheese - that’s my kind of Sunday dinner. We looked at the maps of my route in various states, and planned for tomorrow when Becky is going to drive for me so I can walk. It will be good to be back on the road , and not just in a car.
So now I have to get to bed so I can get up at a decent time. We plan to leave as soon as we can get ready in the morning.
