Well, here we are at our new base in Darien, CT - that’s in the
southeastern part of the state where they tell us we may get
some heavy rain and flooding from Hurricane Hannah on
Saturday if she continues as expected. We’ll leave that all in
God’s hands as we pray for it to dissipate or turn to an area
where it will do little or no damage. I hope you all are praying
for that too, for the sake of so many people who are being
threatened by the approaching weather systems.
Yogi, at the motel we left in Guilford, was so kind to us. They
gave us a good break on our motel bill there. We always pray
that God will prepare the next motel for us and lead us to where
He wants us to be. Today as we searched for a place to stay we
came to the place God chose for us in Darien. This place, too,
has worked out a great price for us. God really is so good.
Our trip here went really well back to where we stopped walking
at West Haven yesterday. It went well after that also, but we
had to do a lot of maneuvering as we tried to follow the walk
route for the next two days. Here I navigated while Norma
drove. While most of it was on Hwy 1, it still did a lot of
turning, and you always had to be alert. It was pretty exhausting
for both of us, but we managed it well enough.
We stopped in Milford, CT to pick up mail, and send some.
When I showed my card and asked for my mail, the clerk said,
“Oh, are you the one that’s walking? We just learned about
that.” Dave always sends a letter to the post office we choose so
they know we will be getting mail there.
Other exciting things that happened today - We spotted at least
two Starbucks on our route! And we stopped at one to get my
chai latte.
We drove as far as Greenwich, CT, but then went back to
Darien to get our motel. They moved a refrigerator and
microwave into our room, so we were able to heat up our
leftovers from last night’s meal for our dinner.
I looked through all my mail - such fun. Lots of good stuff -
including more of our GAP Walk cards! We’ve been enjoying a
light show outside our room, put on by God. Lightning, thunder,
and some rain, but we’re not supposed to get much tonight. This
is coming down from the north, and is just the leftovers from
some big storms in the Hartford area.
Well, we’re gonna watch some of the Republican Convention,
then get to bed. So good-night all. Keep on praying!
